2020 in Review

The exceptional year 2020 is behind us. Here’s an annual review, because despite everything, we were able to carry out our normal activities at least part of the year.

We returned to our rehearsals as usual in January. There were already a few events on the calendar for which we started preparing. The first performance of the year was in February, when Edustus got to perform at the student festival, TR3fest, which was held at Kuivaamo.

The following month also began with performances. At the March Overalls Party (Haalaribileet), both the Show and Edustus took over the stage. Show was also once again involved in a well-being event organized by the university at the Kauppi campus.

In March, the corona restrictions struck, exercise facilities were closed and the training period for our groups was interrupted. However, some of the groups continued organizing remote training throughout the spring. Gathering online with the group on a weekly basis brought routine to a significantly changed day-to-day life.

At the end of the summer we started summer rehearsals for all groups at Nääshalli. During the summer rehearsals, group members had the opportunity to dance and meet dance buddies after a long training break – for the first time since March.

In September, we got back to the familiar training facilities and caught up with our normal activities. The rehearsals started and we organized an audition event, from which we got many great new members to join all our groups. We began to prepare for the main event of the fall, the Creepy Carnival.

The Särkänniemi Creepy Carnival was organized once again. The event has been a delight for our fall for a few years now. We performed at the event with a joint choreography from UniDance for a total of four days. The spectacular carnival atmosphere of the amusement park, performing to the audience, and the amusement rides after the performances were a huge boost in the middle of a darkening autumn.

Although our season ended earlier than expected, we also had one more dance course in November. The open course immersed the participants in the world of movie soundtracks.

We are now looking towards the plans for 2021!
